The essence of Kuching

Sunset at Riverfront, Kuching

Kuching always holds a special place in our hearts. The combination of city, nature and culture make Kuching a unique and unforgettable town.

It was my second time to Kuching and the main reason of my revisit was food. I might not have tried all the famous restaurants but I've discovered quite a number of hidden gems.

Kolo Mee, the dried noodles served in a special sweet sauce and char siew (roasted pork). Dried noodles are fairly common all over Malaysia but Kolo Mee was like no other. You can get it at almost every hawker stall in Kuching.

Lepau Restaurant is our favourite dinner place by far. They serves authentic Kuching dishes with a cultural ambiance so perfect, completed with live traditional instrumental performance by the locals. We have never been so delighted.

We also had a wonderful dinner at Entangen Restaurant which serves original Dayak cuisine. We particularly love their coffee served in bamboo stalks.

Speaking of coffee, our favourite is no other than Black Bean Coffee, a traditional Sarawakian cafe located at Carpenter Street. We loved it so much we brought home so much of coffee beans from them!

If you're a fan of traditional iced milk tea (teh c peng), we discovered Min Huat Coffee Shop which is located opposite of Tower Market. Just a heads up, the coffee shop might look just like any other coffee shop but their teh c peng was unforgettable.

Kubah National Park

Besides food, we visited some special places too, such as Fairy Cave in Bau, Kubah National Park and kayaking at Semadang River. Fairy Cave is an hour drive away from Kuching town but the magnificent view of the cave worth all the effort to go there.

Bus to Bau. Note that the bus no longer take passengers to Fairy Cave. Take a cab from Bau Bus Terminal.

Does this picture look familiar? Indeed, our display picture was taken at Semadang River!
